The building that is now Old Town Center for the Arts was constructed from local river stone and concrete in the 1930's. The renovations for this 'adaptive use' facility have included the use of sustainable friendly materials, including adobe block for the office and restroom addition. Since opening OTCA has presented numerous community events to provide education and awareness of local sustainable initiatives. The annual 'Celebrate the River' concert brings together organizations dedicated to preserving the Verde River Water Basin along with City officials and staff dedicated to water management. The Backyard Gardening Expo provides education on local farming, gardening and seed saving. The Water to Wine Festival celebrates local vineyards and agriculture who promote low water use. Co-Director, William Eaton, a founder of Sustainable Arizona has hosted meetings and speakers at OTCA each year to provide further education on community initiatives.
