The vineyard and winery function as a working model of the local wine industry and are used as educational tools in support for the degree programs offered by Yavapai College. A two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Viticulture and Enology are offered as well as one-year certificates in both Viticulture and Enology.

The vineyard and winery both have been designed with sustainable practices in mind. The vineyard is irrigated with reclaimed water provided by the City of Cottonwood. The wine center is programmed with several energy efficient features including occupancy set times, night cooling and rain water harvesting for outside landscaping. The building used for the winery is a re-purposed racquetball court. Several items in the new facility were created from re-purposed materials.
